Paige Fowler Lyerly, 80, died on February 29, 2024 at Transitions LifeCare Hospice in Raleigh, NC. Born on June 27, 1943 in Salisbury, NC, she was educated in the Rowan County schools and graduated from West Rowan High School. Mrs. Lyerly later earned a Bachelors Degree from UNC-Greensboro and a Masters Degree in Education from Appalachian State University. She was a teacher for many years in the Rowan County Schools and at North Hills Christian School. Over the years, Mrs. Lyerly was a member of Union Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, Meadowview Presbyterian Church in Lexington, NC, and River of Life in Salisbury, NC. She spent many years bringing children to Christ at Ambassador Camp in Lake Waccamaw, NC first as a camp counselor and later as program director. She researched and developed programs, developed themes for summer camp and even helped to build props because she was committed to bringing spiritual emphasis to fun summer activities.
In her later years, Mrs. Lyerly managed her family campground business and wrote and published several books for children. She spent her final years surrounded by her children and grandchildren in Wake Forest, NC. She will be remembered as a kind and generous mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly.
Mrs. Lyerly was preceded in death by her husband James B. Lyerly on December 25, 2006 and by her brother, George F. Fowler, Jr. in June 1990. She is survived by her daughters, Sara L. Draper and husband Charles of Wake Forest and Laura R. Lyerly of Wake Forest and three grandchildren, Sophia, Olivia and Benjamin Draper of Wake Forest.
Visitation will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024 followed by a memorial service at 2 pm in the Rowan Memorial Park Chapel in Salisbury, NC.
