Peggy Pettigrew Obituary

Peggy Ann Williams Pettigrew, 88, went home to be with the Lord on May 25 at her home in Macungie, Pennsylvania.  She was the loving wife of Buddy Gordon Pettigrew.

Peggy was born on January 29, 1933 to Jesse and Margaret Williams in Rapid City, South Dakota.  Her siblings were Robert D. Williams (deceased) and wife Dorothy (deceased) of Nemo, South Dakota; Dean E. Williams (deceased) and wife Dorothy of Tacoma, Washington; and James D. Williams (deceased) and wife Kay of Rapid City, South Dakota.

Peggy graduated from Danville High School in Iowa in 1950, then from Black Hills Teachers College in South Dakota.  She worked as a teacher after graduation, then as a church secretary.  She later worked as a night supervisor of women's dormitories at the University of Texas, and was a long-time volunteer teacher and mentor for women's and youth ministries in her church.

She loved crafts, nature, music, card-making, stamping, home decorating, gardening, watching birds, and serving in her church.  She had several cats and dogs throughout the years, and she especially loved her apricot miniature poodle, Abby.  Her favorite places were the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, the Black Hills of South Dakota, and the Lake where she lived in Tennessee.

To know Peggy was to love Peggy.  She was a woman of great integrity and deep faith.  Her joy was unshakable and contagious.  She was a constant source of encouragement to anyone who crossed her path.  She was loving, loyal, kind-hearted, faithful, compassionate, other-centered, fun, gentle, and always focused on what she could do to glorify God.

Peggy was so proud of her family.  She was married to Buddy for more than 68 years.  They raised two wonderful children, daughter, Cynthia Pettigrew McGovern and son, Kristin Pettigrew, who went home to the Lord in 2007.  She gained two more beloved children through marriage, George McGovern and Toni Pettigrew Teeter.  She was also blessed with six loving granddaughters: Kelly; Emily; Mary; Allison; Joanna; and Jennifer; along with 12 great-grandchildren.

Peggy's self-described mission for her life was this, "To reflect the love of God through encouragement to others - knowing I am nothing without HIM."  Mission accomplished, Peggy.  We love you.
