Regene (Moulton) Butler

Regene Moulton Butler died Friday, April 8, 2022 at Novant Health Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House after a fight with cancer.

She was born in Columbia, SC on October 30, 1936, daughter of Regene Mikell Coleman and Willis Alden (Eddie) Moulton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ronald S. Butler, Sr. She is survived by her sons Ronald Sherrill Butler, Jr. and wife Joy, Richard Mikell Butler and Russell Dean Butler; grandchildren, Richard Mikell Butler, II (Ricky) and Joseph Andrew Butler (Joe) and wife Michelle, Melissa B. Hoover and husband Ken, Jessica Butler, Ronald S. Butler III and wife Dawn, Victoria Regene Shelton (Tori) and husband Keaton, Justin Adam Butler; step grandchildren, Sean McElhiney, Erin Price and husband Steve, and Holly Surratt and husband Ricky.

She spent her younger years at “Hickory Hollow” in Richland County, SC with her grandmother Regene Heard Mikell and doting family members. When her mother married Frank Coleman, she grew up with her mother, step father and step siblings, Phares Sechler, Cameron Coleman, and Peter Coleman. She then moved to Salisbury, NC, where she lived for the rest of her life.

She was a strong woman whose greatest joy was her sons and grandchildren. She was known by all as “Granny”. She had a nail salon in Concord for many years and was affectionately known as the “Nail Lady”. She made many friends among her customers. She was an amazing cook, publishing a cookbook and working with Rowan County Extension Agency teaching homemaking skills, cooking, budgeting, and more.

A service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 4:00 PM, with time with the family afterwards in the Fellowship Hall.
