Rev. David Ray Hutchins passed away at the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury on February 5, 2025, at the age of 71.
He was born on August 26, 1953, in Rowan County to the late Dorothy M. Hutchins and Harold R. Hutchins.
David was a graduate of East Spencer Elementary, North Rowan High School, and Gardner Webb University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sacred music. He worked as a Minister of Music. David loved directing choral music and singing in groups and as a soloist.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Ashley Grayanna Hutchins, brother Dr. Robert H. Hutchins, mother-in-law Jean B. Huneycutt, and father-in-law C. Spurgeon Huneycutt.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Deborah H. Hutchins of Salisbury; son Charles Taylor Hutchins (wife Pamela) of Salisbury; brother Randy Hutchins (wife Tracey) of Kernersville; sister Bonnie Hill (husband Tom) of Gold Hill; sister Patty H. Wirtel of Kentucky; sister-in-law Seldie P. Hutchins of Wilmington; and 8 nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday February 17, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W Innes St, Salisbury, NC 28144. Visitation and Reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to Lyerly Evangelical Church (1320 Crescent Rd, Rockwell, NC 28138), St. Johns Lutheran Church, or Piedmont Players Theater (213 S Main St, Salisbury, NC 28144).
