Richard “Rick” Boshek Obituary

Richard “Rick” Edwin Boshek, 70, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away on December 24, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina, following a long and courageous battle with ALS. He was born on May 17, 1955, in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, to Edwin and Lorraine Boshek, who survive him and reside in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Rick grew up in an Air Force family and spent much of his childhood traveling throughout the United States and abroad, including time in Crete. These experiences shaped his independence, adaptability, and lifelong love of the outdoors. As a boy, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and developed an early appreciation for nature and self-reliance. He attended Horseheads High School in Horseheads, New York, where he wrestled and played football. During his teenage years, he was also known to occasionally play hooky to go hunting and fishing, a passion that remained with him throughout his life.

In 1978, Rick’s father enlisted him and his brother Jim in the United States Air Force, where Rick served four years of active duty working in avionics. His military service instilled in him a strong work ethic, discipline, and technical skill that carried through every stage of his life.

Following his Air Force service, Rick built a career spanning more than 40 years in highly technical roles, including long-term work servicing MRI and CT scanners for Siemens. He was widely known for his ability to understand how things worked and for his skill in taking equipment apart and putting it back together, often improving upon the original design.

Rick spent the last 40 years of his life on High Rock Lake in Lexington, North Carolina, where he raised his family with his beloved and cherished bride of 38 years, Sandra Boshek, currently residing in Charlotte, North Carolina. Rick enjoyed fishing, boating, swimming in his pool, and barbecuing. His neighbors were his best friends.

Rick was the father of five children: Amy Boshek Borg (Joseph) of Sydney, Australia; Ryan Boshek of Thomasville, North Carolina; Lindsey Boshek of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Andrew (Drew) Boshek of Wilmington, North Carolina. He was also stepfather to Douglas Toomes (Meghan) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and was a proud grandfather to Ariah Borg, Alexander Borg, Hayes Toomes, and Eleanor Toomes.

Other survivors include Rick’s sister, Linda Dolka (Thomas) of Browns Mills, New Jersey; nephews Richard Dolka (Laura) of Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Thomas Dolka of Browns Mills, New Jersey; his brother, James Boshek (Suzanne) of Saratoga Springs, New York; nieces Heidi Boshek of Malone, New York, and Jessica Boshek of Saratoga Springs, New York; and nephew David Boshek of Ballston Lake, New York.

Rick had a special bond with his father and his brother Jim, growing up hunting on Harris Hill in Horseheads, New York. The entire family has been blessed with traditions passed down from his youth. He was known for his dry sense of humor, quiet wit, and practical, no-nonsense approach to life.

Rick believed in God and in heaven and felt closest to God through time spent in nature.

A memorial service will be held on January 12 at 9:00 a.m. at the VA Salisbury National Cemetery Annex. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for a brunch at a nearby location.

Richard Edwin Boshek will be remembered for his service, technical skill, love of the outdoors, dedication to family, and the full life he lived. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
