Robert “Bob” Jones Phillips, Sr., 95, of Landis, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at his residence.
Born in Cabarrus County on March 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Marybell Long Phillips and Benjamin “Fred” Phillips.
Bob graduated with a master’s degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a veteran of the US Navy. He started his teaching career in the Rowan and Cabarrus County School Systems and retired from the Social Security Administration, where he worked as a field representative. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. He was very active his whole life until his health started to decline. He loved his church and loved spending time with his great-grandchildren. His happiest moments were with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Gail Phillips and son, Robert Phillips, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Robin Olsen and Beth Phillips; granddaughter, Allison Powell; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Johnson, Talon Lackey, and Nori Lackey.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, 209 E Mill St, Landis, NC 28088 with Pastor Adam Love and Pastor Caitlin Lai officiating.
