Roy Trexler Obituary

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, called on our sweet uncle, Roy Joe Trexler, aged 83, to join his parents, siblings and other family members in Heaven on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024. Roy was the first and youngest surviving child of the late Cletus Adam Trexler, Sr and Mildred Elizabeth Earnhardt Trexler to be born in a hospital on August 22, 1941.

Educated in the Rowan County schools, after high school Roy joined the NC Army National Guard and was a member of their 2d Rifle Platoon, 120th Infantry upon his honorable discharge on December 10, 1961. Deciding he wasn't quite done with the military, he joined the United States Marine Corp the very next day! He served two years with the Marines. When asked which branch he liked better, he would say "I was just proud to serve my country".

After his military service, he worked several odd jobs and then found a career (now nonexistent) he truly enjoyed. He was a gas station attendant for years for Derrick's Truck Stop (now Love's) in Salisbury until his health caused him to retire early.

Roy married the love of his life, Judy Ann Hutchens Trexler, on October 2, 1979 in York, SC and they would go on to be married for 45 years. You rarely saw one without the other. Uncle Roy and Aunt Judy were a team. Where one went, the other was sure to be there also.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his stepmother, Alma Shives Kimball Trexler, sisters and brothers in law, Annie Mae Trexler Shepherd and husband Harold, Margaret Trexler Livengood and husband Donald, Faye Trexler Downum and husbands Everette Brady and Bill Downum; brothers Cletus Adam "June" Trexler, Jr., James "Jim" Trexler, Ralph Donald "Buddy" Trexler, Sr., and a brother and sister who were stillborn upon birth.

Roy was preceded in death by two nieces, Lisa Gay Trexler and Robbin Trexler Baird and two nephews, Jeffrey Mark Brady and Gary Todd Trexler. He was also preceded in death by nephew in law, Walter Lewis Beaver and niece in law, Laura Ann Golliver Trexler.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy Hutchens Trexler and his nephews and nieces, Luke Shepherd and wife Jan, Leila Shepherd Stennett and husband Paul, Tobin Shepherd and wife Beverly, Ellen Shepherd Micono and husband Jeff; Cletus Adam Trexler, III "Sonny" and Gail Trexler Fincher; Patricia "Pattie" Livengood Beaver, Wayne Livengood and wife Genna, David Livengood and wife Susan; James "Jim" Trexler and wife Yumi and Sherri Trexler; Wesley Brady and wife Star, Kevin Brady and wife Carol; Jane "Janie" Trexler Fraley and husband Rick, Ralph Donald Trexler, Jr "Donnie" and wife Linda, Tammy Trexler Winstead and husband Richard, Mark Trexler, Tonya Trexler Daniels and husband Stephen, Matthew Trexler and wife Corinne, Tina Trexler Brown and husband Michael; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 2:30pm at the Salisbury National Cemetery (Statesville Boulevard in Salisbury, NC) with full Military Graveside Rites.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation, PO Box 30783, Tucson AZ 85751-0783 (alzheimersprevention.org) or St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 (stjude.org).
