Samuel Spear

Samuel Edgar “Eddie” Spear Jr., age 70, of Wilkesboro, NC passed away on June 7, 2024. Born on March 24, 1954, in Topeka, Kansas, Eddie was a beloved individual who cherished life, his family, and his passion for golf. His infectious humor and love for those around him endeared him to many.

Eddie, known as “Sunshine Sam” during his military service, proudly served in both the U.S. Navy and Army for 18 years as a radio and TV broadcaster. His military associations were a significant part of his life, and he was respected for his dedication and service.

In his free time, Eddie enjoyed playing golf and spending relaxing days at the beach. His love for these hobbies brought him much joy and relaxation throughout his life.

Eddie is survived by his cherished partner, Debbie Roberts, whom he lovingly referred to as the love of his life. He is also survived by his sisters Pam Gaither and Sarah Lynn Bowles; his very special nephew Patrick Gaither; and his two cousins Sharon Kallum and Susan Hyder; as well as many more cousins, nieces, and nephews. Eddie was preceded in death by his father Samuel Spear Sr. and his mother Sarah Anderson Spear.

A celebration of life service is planned at a later date at 11:00 am on June 21, 2024, at the VFW in North Wilkesboro, 802 Veterans Dr, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. The Lyerly Funeral Home in Salisbury, NC is assisting with the arrangements. 

Eddie’s vibrant personality, love for his family, and dedication to the country will always be remembered by those whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
