Sylvia Jean (Beckom) Brooks

Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Sylvia Beckom Brooks, 75, went home to be with the Lord on November 27, 2024. The daughter of T.H. and Jean Beckom, Sylvia was born on July 25, 1949 in Rowan County, North Carolina.

Sylvia attended North Rowan High School in Salisbury, NC, where she would meet her true love, Jerry and they would later marry on April 19, 1969. Sylvia and Jerry would go on to have 3 children and 3 grandchildren, all of whom she loved endlessly and would serve as the foundation of their upbringing.

Sylvia attended business school before joining the business world and putting her many talents to work. Sylvia quickly proved what an asset she was, and took a position as a Business Manager at G.T. McSwain, Inc., in Boiling Springs, NC until retiring with 30 years of service. She was loved and admired by everyone she came in contact with. Sylvia loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and spent much of her free time in prayer and study. A classically refined piano gift paired well while diligently serving alongside her husband as a Pastor’s wife. She was always helping her community and building her ministry one person at a time, especially with the youth. Serving the Lord every possible way she could was her greatest calling.

Sylvia is survived by her two children; Jerry Wayne Brooks, Jr., and Alison Joy Woods and her husband, Joseph; three grandchildren, Laurel Brooks, Coriana Woods and Calista Woods and beloved nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was predeceased by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, Jerry; her son Chad Brooks, her parents T.H. and Jean Beckom, and her sister Vicki McSwain.

All services will be under the direction of Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury, North Carolina. Services will be held at Rowan Memorial Park in the mausoleum at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, officiated by Rev. Hugh Whitfield.
