Sylvia Lowman Sofley, 87, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday July 20, 2023, at her home after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 6, 1935, in Rowan Co., she was the daughter of the late Smyttle Arnette Lowman and Margie Starnes Lowman.
Sylvia graduated from Rockwell High School and attended Salisbury Business College. She spent her career working for Sherrill & Smith CPAs in accounting. Following retirement, she spent another seven years volunteering at Rufty Homes Center as a volunteer tax preparer. She volunteered for numerous organizations over the years receiving multiple acknowledges of her service.
She was extremely talented in sewing, crocheting and other crafts that she generously shared with so many and donated to her church. Her passions also included fishing, gardening, and participating in the Senior Games.
She was a member of Providence Methodist Church and a former member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, John Anderson Sofley.
She is survived by her sons John Sofley Jr. and wife Pamela, Stephen Sofley and wife Brenda, all of Salisbury, her cherished brothers Bud Lowman and wife Linda, Sam Lowman and wife Susan, and Jack Lowman and wife Louise all of Salisbury, sister-n-law H. Marie Sofley of Granite Quarry, brother-n-law Jerry Sofley and wife Martha of Gastonia, grandchildren Amy Sofley of Salisbury, Christina Sidden of China Grove, Jonathan Sofley and husband TJ Norris of Fort Worth TX, Stephanie Sofley of Salisbury, step grandchildren Chad Deal and wife Lindsey of Phoenix AZ, and Jessie Deal of Rockwell, great grandsons whom she adored Brenden Sofley and Evan Cleaton, step great granddaughters Emaleigh and Aiden Jarrel, Bentley and Harley Barry and step great grandson Kingston Barry and Cash Deal and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon July 29, at the Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Gobble officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Prior to the service, the family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45.
