Tammy Townsend Obituary

Tammy Lyn Townsend, 46, of Holmdel, NJ, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Born in Long Branch, NJ, to Eileen (Eldridge) Medeiros. Tammy fought a hard, 15-year battle with breast cancer. A loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend. In her youth she could be found exploring the Big Brook Preserve in Colts Neck, NJ, searching for shark’s teeth and fossils, playing outside with her older sister Mandi, or Irish dancing at a summer festival. She loved to travel and go camping with her Mom-Mom and Pop. Tammy treasured her time and adventures with her cousins. So many trips to NYC and Governors Island, summer trips to Barnegat, and exploring abandoned locations, there was always a crazy Goonie adventure to be had.

She always dressed up for Halloween and made everything she did fun. Tammy was just the best person who loved fiercely. She was the most selfless friend who was always ready to help you tackle a project or help you through a problem. She was an extremely talented artist and made the most beautiful crochet items. She was so thoughtful and gave the most amazing hand-made or useful gifts. Tammy was an expert thrifter and master garage sale enthusiast. She loved a good bargain and always found the most unique treasures.

Tammy was an avid animal lover, outdoor enthusiast, adventurist, and environmentalist. She loved the water, there wasn’t a pool or body of water she could pass up. She enjoyed many hours on her paddle board and kayaking with her Aunt Shannon and cousin Brandon, exploring the water ways of Monmouth and Ocean counties. Tammy was a Wild Keeper Ambassador for Keep Nature Wild. On her hikes and adventures, she would bring her bio-degradable trash bags and pick up pounds and pounds of trash. She tried to live a green and sustainable lifestyle.

She worked for Rick and Jeanette Mulvey of Mulvey Electric. Her family cannot thank them enough for their support, understanding, caring, and generosity. Without them, Tammy’s journey would have been so much harder.

Eileen, Tammy, and Mandi were the three musketeers, the sun, the moon, and the star. Her family and friends will miss her light, the joy she brought to so many, her laugh, and her sense of humor. She could make you laugh so hard.

In lieu of flowers the family requests you honor Tammy by doing something she would support; donate to your local Planned Parenthood, animal rescue, or cancer research, volunteer your time, organize a community clean up, or just pick up some trash on your next walk or hike.
