William “Bill” Abra Torrence, Sr., 80, of Salisbury passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County in Kannapolis.
Born in Rowan County on July 24, 1940, he was the son of the late Virginia Eidson and Paul Eugene Torrence.
Bill served in the Army Reserves Transportation Unit and retired from Chandler Concrete. Earlier, he worked for Wicks Lumber, Moore’s, Lowes, and Cozart. He was a member of the Shriner’s Club and a former member of Coburn United Methodist Church. Bill attended East Carolina University.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Owen and brother, Larry Eugene Torrence.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia Leazer Torrence, whom he married on June 5, 1965; sons, William “Bill” Torrence, Jr. of Salisbury and Jon Torrence of Salisbury; daughter, Gina Eller (Wayne) of Rockwell; brother, Robert “Bob” Torrence (Rachel) of Salisbury; grandchildren, Curtis Torrence, Hannah Eller, Lindsey Eller, Janie Eller, Peyten Eller and Luke Eller; great-grandchildren, Hagen Morgan and Asher Mattingly.
Graveside Service: 11:00 AM Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, 1134 S. Main St., Salisbury, NC 28144 with the Rev. Gene Beaver officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
