Richard Eugene Mathis, 84, of Cleveland passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
Born in Pinckneyville, Ill. on April 12, 1934, he was the son of the late Helen Rennison Mathis and Harold Mathis.
Richard worked as a long distance truck driver and retired from Cansorb. He was a founding member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Mathis, who passed away on Sept. 27, 2012; brother, Leonard Mathis; sisters, Roberta Scholebo and Diane Summers.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Dean Endress (Angela) of Woodleaf; daughters, Kathy Barnes (Johnny) of China Grove, Melody Harkey (Randy) of Cleveland, Tammy Peeler (Eddie) of Cleveland and Sonja Young of Florida; brother, Sam Mathis (Paula) of Cleveland; sister, Brenda Russell (Kenneth) of China Grove; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 200 Clearview Rd., Cleveland, NC 27103.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Rakes officiating. Burial will follow in the Cleveland Town Cemetery.
