Charles Thomas "Tom" Barger

Charles Thomas (Tom) Barger, 91, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at his home. He was born in Davidson County, February 24th, 1927 to the late James Riley Barger and the late Sarah Edwards Barger. He was educated in the Rowan County Schools and served in the U.S. Navy. A career farmer, he was the last tobacco grower in Rowan County. He was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by brothers Marvin, Buck, and Jake; sisters Essie, Callie, Geneva, Myrtle, and Gurla.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 70 years, Edith Koontz Barger, whom he married on March 6th, 1948; his sisters Georgia Harris of Greensboro, Lizzie Wagner of Mt. Ulla, Peggy Koontz of Salisbury, brother Joe Barger of Ringgold, GA; and daughters Linda Howard (Lynn) of Granite Falls, Wanda Bogle (Donnie) of Salisbury, Sharon Graham (Randy) of Salisbury, Cheryl Marshall (Dave) of Raleigh, Ronnell Grubb (Jeff) of Salisbury. He was adored by his 12 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren (1 on the way).
Visitation: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM Thursday, March 22, 2018, Salem Lutheran Church, 5080 Sherrills Ford Road, Salisbury, NC 28147.
Service: A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 PM with the Rev. Dawn Rister officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
