Charles Haywood Harris, Jr., 87, of Salisbury passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Novant Health Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.
Born in Rowan County on May 16, 1933, he was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth Heilig and Charles H. Harris.
Charlie was a 1950 graduate of Lexington High School. He graduated from Catawba College in 1954 and the NC Insurance Institute of Fire and Casualty in 1958. Charlie worked in insurance sales and was a cradle member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the Lions Club of Salisbury. Charlie was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Salisbury Country Club and enjoyed his longtime foursome.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Martin and John Harris; brother-in-law, John Thomas Walton.
A beloved husband of 68 years, he is survived by his wife, Joan Walton Harris, whom he married in 1952. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Mary Walton Crouch (Bobby) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Phyllis Walton; nieces and nephews, Dr. Scott Walton (Samantha) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Dr. Steven Walton (Vickie) of Atlanta, GA, Robin Ross (Jay) of Monroe, NC, Cassie Crouch Dodds (Robert) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Bo Crouch, Jr. (Jill) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Bill Crouch (Margaret) of McClellanville, SC, and John David Crouch (Erica) of St. Paul, MN.
Due to COVID, a small private family service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Rhodes Woolly, Senior Pastor officiating.
