Glendlyn "Laney" Merinkers Obituary

Glendlyn “Laney” Mellis Merinkers, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022. Laney was born in Charleston, South Carolina on April 27, 1934, and was one of many brothers and sisters. She retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard having worked in various positions throughout her career. However, Laney’s real work was defined in her service to her family. She worked tirelessly to make a house a real home.

Laney was a kind, loving person who always took time to listen to the needs of others. She loved to bake and cook, and she felt this was a calling in her life. Laney believed that providing home baked goods to others would bring a ray of sunshine into their lives. She was a true friend to many, and she always strived to help others in any way possible.

Her faith was an important part of her life, and through her words and witness, she helped many to live a Christ centered life. As a Christian woman she exemplified God’s love of family, friends, and anyone in need.

She is predeceased by her husband George, her parents and three siblings. Her surviving family includes son Nick Merinkers, (Heather); daughters Sharon Heavner (Ed); Brenda Hydrick; Holly Bell (Andy); Kim Janacek; Laura Martin; Gina Mock (Tommy); Angie Smoak (Larry). She is also survived by four siblings. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Alexandra, Alexis, Aubrey, Chad, Chelsie, Miranda. She also leaves behind several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at Broadus Baptist Church, 59 Green Street, Concord, NC 28027.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Broadus Baptist Church.
