James Brooks Obituary

James Monroe Brooks, 97, peacefully passed on September 11, 2021 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury.

Born October 8, 1923, he was a World War II Veteran who proudly served in the Navy in the south pacific aboard the USS Fair. Along with 18 other veterans, he was inducted into the North Carolina Military Veterans Hall of Fame on February 21, 2021.

He was preceded in death by Ethel Stricker Brooks and Rachel Norman Brooks.

He was the beloved father of 2 daughters, Judy Carmichael of West Haven, Utah, and Carol {Benny) Kesterson of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was proud of his 7 grandchildren: Shellie Misenheimer, Cathy Campbell, Laura Stone, Leah Marsh, Alex Carmichael, Rebecca Moser, and Thomas Carmichael. There are 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was proud to have Jim and Kay Norman as part of his family.

Friends and neighbors were an important part of his life.

He was devoted to his family who loved and cherished him. He will be greatly missed.

Service: 9:00 AM Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Salisbury National Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Reynolds officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard.
