Oliver Benton Obituary

Oliver Bradley “Brad” Benton passed away peacefully on September 7th, 2021, in his home in Salisbury, North Carolina. He was born on November 8th, 1949, the youngest child of Mildred Bradley and James Cashion Benton of Charlotte, NC and was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl.

Brad was a proud graduate of Harding High School in 1967 where he was a football standout, receiving a full scholarship to Lees McRae College. He loved his family, music, and old cars. In his younger days, Brad loved to play sports like golf and tennis with his family and friends. He also participated as a coach for several young sports teams. After his retirement from Freightliner, his days were spent in his favorite place, a rocking chair on the front porch, greeting neighbors and anyone who passed by. Brad enjoyed current events and kept a keen eye on the news and world events. His family will cherish the memories of his witty sense of humor, storytelling, and work ethic. He was incredibly proud of his 5 children and loved being a dedaddy to 8 grandchildren.

Brad is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Parks Benton, sons: Daniel Benton (Kara) of Yountville, CA, Jonathan Benton (Amanda) of Salisbury, NC, Thomas Benton of Charleston, SC; daughters: Alicia Hamilton of Charlotte, NC, Rebecca Troyer (Eric) of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren: Hunter and Ashe Hamilton, Alyssa Kesler, Corbin Benton, Callan Benton, Matthew Benton, Bradley Benton, Gavin Pittman; sisters: Iris Cavin of Spencer, NC, Rebecca (Mendel) Rivers of Wilmington, NC, and brother James Benton of Salisbury, NC.
