Raymond Carriker, 86, of Salisbury, passed away at Novant Regional Medical Center surrounded by family.
Born in Rowan County on May 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Minnie Lou Leonard and William Franklin Carriker. He retired from Martin Marietta, Inc. after decades of being a Pit Foreman at the Woodleaf Quarry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife and mother of his children Gail Beck Carriker; daughter Cathy Sprinkle; brothers Wilber Carriker and Dwight Lee Carriker; his sisters Louise Rabon and Betty Kimbrell; and granddaughter Amanda Sprinkle.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Rebanell Carriker, who he married on August 25, 2013, after over a decade of companionship. He also leaves behind daughters Kelly Carriker and Crystal Fry (Forster); grandkids Angelina “Angie” Kauffman, Amber Sprinkle, Randi Farrow, Lauren Lomax, Jesse Morgan (Joanna), and Haley Lomax; 3 step-children; 16 step-grandkids, 5 great grandkids; 23 step-great grandkids; and a special nephew and friend Johnny Carriker.
Throughout his life, Raymond was most affectionately known as Pawpaw. He spent his happiest days sharing jokes and stories with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed pickin’ the guitar, fishing at High Rock Lake, working on cars, going to Shatley Springs, giving his dog Mary Lee lots of snacks, and taking his kids and grandkids on adventures.
Service: A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2nd, at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
