Rev. Steve Aaron Horsley
(B. August 3, 1954)
On 09-09-2021, Rev. Steve Horsley was called home to sing and rejoice. He was born on August 3, 1954, in Huntsville, Al, the youngest child of Samuel Pascal Horsley and Ardell Aaron Horsley. Rev. Horsley proudly served in the United States Navy after high school, which lead to a life of service. He was an ordained minister, serving in various churches. He worked in various children’s homes serving as a house parent, and a teacher in various schools, following a family tradition of teaching. His passion for music was well known, as he was a minister of music in various churches; as well as, performing for venues during the 1996 Olympics. He loved his family, friends, and life itself. He was also there for mentorship to anyone who needed it and to the many couples he married.
He is survived by his wife, Ava Annette Horsley, his sons, Stephen Horsley (Anita), Timothy Horsley and Thomas Andrew Horsley, and his daughter, Geana Welichko; as well as, his grandchildren, Jordan, Aaron, Skylar, and Samuel Horsley; along with, Jessica, Tal, and Kevin Welichko, whom he loved very much. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers; Brenda Johnson-Benson (Johnny), Patsy Horsley, Samuel Horsley (Patti), and Michael Horsley (Wanda). He was blessed with many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. This included his family through marriage. He also had two very special “four-legged” friends whom watched over him constantly, “Beau” and “Tahlia.”
Rev. Horsley’s life was always complete when he was with his wonderful friends, including his brothers and sisters of American Legion Post 87, in High Point, NC, and his Sunday School Class of Rich Fork Baptist Church, in Thomasville, NC.
The family would like to thank the staff of the VA Hospital of Salisbury, NC and Lyerly Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Horsley will be interred at the Salisbury National Cemetery, in Salisbury, NC, on Friday, April 15, 2022. The service will be begin at 11:00 am at the Pavilion, on the cemetery grounds, located at 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144. Military Honors will be conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Forces Honor Guard.
