Walter Lee “Buddy” Buckhanan, 81, also known as Cowboy, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at his residence.
Born in Tampa, FL on November 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Alice Cumbie Buckhanan and Walter Lee Buckhanan, Sr.
Mr. Buckhanan was a veteran of the US Army and worked as a truck driver. He was Baptist by faith and loved huntin, fishing, and camping. He would help anyone at any time no matter what. He was known as the I-4 hero in the Tampa area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Buckhanan and sister, Nita Bowling.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kay Avirett Buckhanan, whom he married on April 11, 1963; son, Bronson Shane Buckhanan of Mooresville; daughters, Brenda Lea Meadors of Mooresville, Deborah Brown of Phoenix City, AL, and Cindy Obenhour of Phoenix City, AL; brother, Edgar Lee Buckhanan of Florida; sisters, Mary Day of Georgia and Dorothy Jean Thompkins of Georgia; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
